Riesling Olympics at Fix St James

    January 24, 2013

Fix St. James on UrbanspoonI post far more often about scoffing than quaffing, for three main reasons:

    1. I can’t make wine. Continue reading →

Green Palace on UrbanspoonGreen Palace is one of many, many Thai restaurants on Newtown’s King St strip. However, it stands out from others because of three things: it’s vegan, it’s cheap, and it’s really REALLY delicious. I know, it surprised me too! Continue reading →

  • Al Carbón @ La Lupita Pop-Up Restaurant, Canterbury

    August 28, 2012

In general, I’m not into pop-ups, food trucks and other trendy things. However, I do love good food, and am always willing to try something new. So when I heard that the home of the famed Al Carbón food truck was just up the road from me in Canterbury, and that it was (occasionally) home to a pop-up restaurant called La Lupita, I was intrigued to try it. • Yen For Viet, Marrickville – Take 2

    August 28, 2012

Mr Black and I first visited Yen For Viet when it was brand new (see my first post here). Since then we’ve been back a few times – when we can get a table! Even on a weeknight they’re pretty busy, and deservedly so. Their food is excellent quality and, while not as cheap a most places on the Illawarra Rd strip, is still fantastic value. They are both BYO and licenced, which is great because there are no bottle shops anywhere nearby! Continue reading →

  • Food Bloggers’ “Fancy French Dinner Party” at Atelier Restaurant, Glebe

    August 12, 2012

    It finally happened…

After nearly three years of food blogging, last June I managed to attend a food blogger event! The food bloggers’ #fancyfrenchdinnerparty was held at Restaurant Atelier, a gorgeous little sandstone cottage in Glebe. It is just the kind of place at which I would love to have a special dinner or event – I could even imagine having our wedding reception here, if we hadn’t already planned one! Continue reading →

With so many great value weeknight restaurant specials around this winter, Thursday night dinners with my mum are getting more fancy by the week. Tonight we popped down to Booth St Bistro, just a few blocks from her place.

  • Minh Vietnamese, Dulwich Hill

Minh is our local Vietnamese joint. It’s closer than (but not quite as good as) the Viet places in Marrickville and makes for a decent low-key meal. Plus, they are licensed and BYO and serve a decent glass of house wine as well as a few old favourites by the bottle such as Oyster Bay sav blanc. Continue reading →

  • Hartsyard, Newtown – revisited

    Featured

Hartsyard on UrbanspoonSince our first trip to Hartsyard on their opening night, we’ve been looking forward to going back and trying other dishes… and trying the duck again! This time we brought four others with us so that we could order just about everything on the menu. Continue reading →

  • Da Vinci’s, Summer Hill

Da Vinci's Italian on UrbanspoonOn Thursday nights, my mum and I have dinner together. We try to keep it local and inexpensive – the Entertainment Book vouchers come in handy! We recently realised that despite being so close to Summer Hill, we’d never been there for dinner. So we rocked on over to give Da Vinci’s a try. Continue reading →

  • Hartsyard, Newtown

Hartsyard on UrbanspoonThe space which was once The Gourmet Viking has been transformed into the most exciting restaurant Enmore Road has seen for a long time. Husband and wife team Gregory Llewellyn (chef) and Naomi Hart (front of house) have worked hard to create their ‘seed and feed’ style eatery, complete with greenhouse for herbs and flowers, benches made from rescued extinct Tasmanian timber, and carbonated water on tap.
